Coach Bill Taylor Memorial Scholarship

Coach Francis P. “Bill” Taylor died April 8, 2007. He was a unique and unforgettable person, and his blend of competitive spirit, compassion, and wit were one of a kind. Several of Coach Taylor’s former teammates, players and friends began a scholarship in his name which will enable his legacy to benefit students for years to come.

Coach Taylor believed in education and loved the game of football; through these interests he profoundly impacted the lives of young people. He cared deeply for his students, both on and off the athletic field. In 1996, he completed a 27-year career at Daviess County High School (DCHS) as teacher, coach and athletic director.

Coach Taylor was very passionate in all he pursued and asked each student to do the same. He motivated them to heights they did not think achievable. He believed that with dedication, preparation and superior effort, anything was possible.

These traits served Coach Taylor well in life. While a student at Owensboro High School (Class of 1963), he earned All-State honors in football. During his football career at Western Kentucky University (WKU), he earned team captain designation and most valuable player award. After receiving his master’s degree from WKU in 1969, he embarked on his career at DCHS where the school yearbook was dedicated to him three times.

The Coach Bill Taylor Memorial Scholarship is a renewable $1,000 scholarship awarded to a student athlete from DCHS who will attend WKU. The student must demonstrate personal qualities of excellent character, integrity, dependability, industriousness, and human compassion. A student’s financial need will be an important consideration. The scholarship is renewable for 4 years if the student maintains a 2.8 GPA and continues to demonstrate good citizenship at WKU.
